Class History
Freshmen – Year 2000 was a very memorable year for us. It was a transition period because we were about to start our high school lives. We were curious about our future. So we wrote a song entitled ”High School Life,” which when sung brings the listener along memory lane.
The school year started in June. We were a class of 81 students: 37 males and 44 females, divided into two sections–Section Leo under Mr. Roger Gawidan and Section Taurus under Mrs. Lioba Achawon.
It was our first time to have classmates coming from different barangays. At first, we were shy with one another but as days passed by, we all became friends.
In October 2000, we conducted a program to celebrate Tribal Filipino Month. This was our first time to hold a program which made us happy and excited but at the same time, nervous. Delailah Songaben, our curriculum President, was our leader.
At the end of the school year, we realized that being a high school student is more difficult than it is to be an elementary pupil. However, we were very happy to finish our first year at St. James’ High School.
All of us did our best. 81 of us who started in June 2000 finished the first year in March 2001. The school year closed with Kathleen Padalla and Gay Pascual garnering first honors. The following received other awards: Delailah Songaben 2nd; Zaldy Dokey and Roquel Calalanoy-3rd; Grace Sinaoy-4th; Sean Kalnog-5th; Ghia Buking-6th; Lorena Lumagto-7th; Kathie Ren LAcsigen-8th; Falen Bugnosen-9th; and Chester Lomong- oy and Gayle Gawigawen-10th.
Sophomore – The following year, we were happy to be together again. While some of our original classmates left, 11 new students joined us. They were Manuel Macayba, Grisham Bacwaden, Madegyem Badongen, Jeffrey Jose, Joven Gayagay, Lilyn Dasoy, Renierose Delegencia, Aszhare Olat, Aira Pandoyos, Madelin Pasigen and Janice Sabelo.
Our class was composed of 85 students. Miss Prima Langbao was our adviser for section Aquarius and Mrs. Cynthia Bangaan for section Virgo. Our Araling Panlipunan teacher, Mr. Johnny Baguiwen left Besao to join with his wife in Canada. He was replaced by Mr. Basilio Agpad.
Our class had many notable achievements during the year. John Antiyag won the second place award in the Sci-damath competition held in Bontoc. Likewise, Gay Pascual received the 5th place award. Delailah Songaben also joined the quiz bee on Philippine History in Bontoc on September 28, 2001. She was ranked 3rd and was able to join the Regional Quiz Bee held in Wangal, Benguet on October 19, 2001. She ranked 8th place. Some of our classmates also joined the NAMCYA: Ryan Aquin, Divina Sinnay, May Ann Cadaweng, Tirzalyn Longay, Vivian Longay and Dane Guzman. They won 1st prize in the District Level held at the Besao Open Gymnasium and they represented our town in the Division Level competition in Bontoc. Again, they won 1st prize, enabling them to join the regional finals held in Baguio, in which they won top honors in the Regional and National NAMCYA.
On January 2002, our batch launched a program “Values Education” headed by Kathleen Padalla, our curriculum president. In the process, some of us realized that we were good actors and actresses, while others discovered their aptitude for singing and dancing.
This school year’s Cream of the Crop were: Delailah Songaben-1st; Kathleen Padalla- 2nd; Gay Pascual-3rd; Grace Sinaoy-4th; Lorena Lumagto-5th; Raquel Calalanoy-6th;Chester Lomong-oy-7th;Kathie Ren Lacsigen-8th;Leah Ibayan-9th; and Jomie Lee Pednga-10th.
Out of the 85 sophomores, 78 of us proceeded to third year.
Junior – In June, 75 students enrolled as juniors. Menard Kilito, Dominic Baaten, Valentina Bosigen, Arlyn Dagdag, May Ann Saulo, and Reggie Tade became our new classmates.
Mrs. Detty Balokey was our adviser for section Gemini while Mrs. Rosalina Tabag for section Aries.
During our junior year, there were several notable achievements. Grace Sinaoy and Kathleen Padalla joined the Earth Science in Baguio and were able to grab 11th place. Kathleen Padalla, Gayle Gawigawen and Delailah Songaben attended the PRESSCON that was held in Kadaclan, Barlig. Kathleen won 6th place in news writing English while Gayle Gawigawen was the champion for sports writing in English.
On February 7, 2003, the Junior-Senior Promenade was launched. We felt so ignorant because we had never attended this event before. Zaldy Dokey received the “key of responsibility” from Billy Liwan.
71 of us continued on to 4th year. Kathleen Padalla received top honors with Gay Pascual 2nd, Delailah Songaben 3rd, Grace Sinaoy 4th, Lorena Lumagto 5th, Kathie Ren Lacsigen 6th, Chester Lomong-oy 7th, Raquel Calalanoy 8th, Leah Ibayan 9th, and Jomie Lee Pednga 10th.
Seniors – In our final year, there were 73 of us. Mrs. Sylvia Yongaan was our Pisces section adviser and Mrs. Jane Casilio for section Libra.
Aiza Miller, Roslyn Dangawen, Joy Kidangen, and Nena Gawidan joined our class and Shane Javier had returned.
Deacon Echanes Cadiogan replaced Rev. Charles Buking as our new chaplain and C.E. teacher.
Kathleen Padalla won 2nd place in the Science Super Quiz Bee held in Bontoc. Gayle Gawigawen won the 2nd place in sports writing in English during the PRESSCON held in November 2003 held in school. Kathleen Padalla and Delailah Songaben joined the Science Fair in Bontoc and both won 6th place. Our math team composed of Jomie Lee Pednga, Gay Pascual, and Kathleen Padalla grabbed 2nd place in the Math challenge held in Sagada. Gay Pascual and Kathleen Padalla also joined the Math Quiz Bee in Bontoc–Pascual won 4th place while Kathleen Padalla took 2nd place.
On February 14, 2004, Arlyn Dagdag and Winston Botengan were declared as Miss and Mr. JSP. May Ann Cadaweng and Philip Songaben were proclaimed King and Queen of Hearts. Lorena Lumagto, Dane Guzman, Joven Gayagay, and Kathleen Padalla were hailed as Valentine Pairs.
Our Seniors night was held on March 26–an opportunity for all of us to be together. Phillip Songaben Jr. and Arlyn Dagdag were awarded the title Miss and Mr, Seniors Night. Meanwhile, the award for Miss Wisdom was given to Kathleen Padalla.
Finally, the school year ended with Kathleen Padalla as the Valedictorian, Gay Pascual as Salutatorian. Delailah Songaben ranked 3rd, Grace Sinaoy- 4th, Lorena Lumagto- 5th, Raquel Calalanoy- 6th, Chester Lomong-oy- 7th, Jomie Lee Pednga- 8th Leah Ibayan-9th and Kathie Ren Lacsigen-10th.
